This little one kept us guessing - the due date came and went and suddenly a holiday arrival seemed more likely. I had a lovely day with my own little ones and as they dressed for bed that night I got the call - what perfect timing!
To add to the fun, we didn't know if we would be welcoming a girl or boy. The parents requested they be the ones to announce it (rather than having a very excited room full of staff share the news.) Once baby was out I tried to gently remind the room by asking the parents directly, "Do you want to announce to us what you have??" And they did, and I cried. It was so amazingly sweet seeing their expressions and joy as they hugged and kissed their new boy.
I was honored to be part of their journey as they prepared to welcome their son. They worked so hard to bring him safely into the world, and I'm grateful for the chance to share in their special day.

While every birth I doula-ed involved me being handed a camera, I really wanted the chance to focus sometime on JUST photographing the birth, and Kelley and Jeremy were kind enough to give me that chance. I met Kelley through another community activity but they attended the childbirth class I help teach, after which I asked them if I could be a silent observer for their birth to get some photo practice. (I admit it - I ended up being not silent at their birth, but I think they forgave me for my little insertions and cheers!) π You can read their story and see some of the photos from one of the first births I photographed
