Birth Inspiration – Believe

I am reading (and loving) The Gift of Giving Life: Rediscovering the Divine Nature of Pregnancy and Birth. Though I've heard this quote many times before, reading it in the context of this book about birth really struck me:

Until one is committed
There is hesitancy, the chance to draw back
Always ineffectiveness.

Concerning all acts of initiative (and Creation)
There is one elementary truth
The ignorance which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:

That the moment that one definitely commits ones self
Then Providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one
That would never otherwise have occurred.

A whole stream of events issues from the decision
Raising in one’s favor all manner
Of unforeseen incidents and meetings
And material substance
Which no one could have dreamt
Would have come your way.

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.

GOETHE

The line that leapt out at me was -
That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves, too.

When we make a decision, when we truly and wholeheartedly commit ourselves to a course of action, then even the heavens move because of that choice. We know birth is unpredictable and we are exercising faith in a certain path - it may change, there are always surprises, it's not that we are demanding any one course of action. But OUR faith, throwing ourselves heart and soul into the experience, is going to make things move. Things will happen when we truly commit, in a way that they will not if we are being indecisive.

It's always a leap of faith. "Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it."
